The Magic of Christmas
Christmas is definitely a magic time, where is kind of hard not to feel joyful. As Christmas begins in Puerto Rico, the towns plaza do a small cultural festival celebrating the arrival of Christmas with the lighting of the plaza. Some town go as far as having concerts with local singers and fireworks.
This 26 of November was the town plaza Christmas lighting, and according to what my girlfriend, this event is one of the biggest in town. So I grabbed my mirrorless camera, had a quick dinner and headed to the towns plaza and look what is so magical about this lighting.
When we got there, I was amazed of how dark it was and how much people where present waiting for the event to start. There was traditional music playing in the outdoor theater that the town set up for the event.
As we waited for the Christmas Lighting to start, we walk around the plaza in search of food. It was quite hard to really go around because of all the people, but we saw a stand were they serve chicken skewers or pinchos which are extremely delicious, they are covered in BBQ sauce, and since its cooked on a grill, the chicken have a smokey flavor. Just thinking about it makes me hungry.
The line to order was outrageously large and when we were half way to order, the mayor announced the the enlightening of the Christmas lighting. Thankfully my fiance was able to stand in line while I went to Photograph the event.
As I rushed through the crowd, trying to get a picture of the mayor announcing the lighting, I arrived a tab too late and he ordered to turn the lights in the plaza. Immediately after the announcement, fireworks started going out brightening the night sky. People started clapping and cheering at the fireworks, indeed was a great spectacle.
The fireworks ended quickly, and as quick the fireworks were, people also started leaving. That gave me a chance to go around the plaza and take some pictures. I enjoy taking pictures at night because taking the images become another world, you can do long exposure images, quick without a tripod if you have a good camera with image stabilization. The event lasted around 12 midnight, me and my fiance had a long day and weren’t staying around until that late.
There will be other Christmas Lighting around the island celebrating the beginning of Christmas, if you are interested in seen one now its the time. These celebrations are a lot of fun for you and your family and is something to enjoy while on vacation if you are visiting around the beginning of December.
